SME financing questions / Singapore
Business loan rejected? Start with the reason.
If a bank declines your business loan, ask which requirements were not met and what information could support a future application. Check the accuracy of the documents and any personal credit report requested from a director or guarantor. Another bank may reach a different decision, but a new application or bank introduction does not guarantee approval.

Questions to ask the bank
- Was the application incomplete, outside a product requirement, or declined after assessment?
- Which information can you clarify or correct, and what documents would the bank need?
- Does the bank permit a review or future application, and on what conditions?
- Would a formal new application involve a credit check on the business, director or guarantor?
Check the information, not just the outcome
Compare the documents submitted with the bank's checklist. Make sure company details and financial records are current and consistent. If a personal credit report is part of the application, check it for errors and follow the bureau's correction process where necessary.
Personal credit reports and business underwriting are different subjects. MoneySense explains credit-report factors; CBS explains enquiry types. Neither source establishes that every business conversation has the same credit-score effect.
Government-supported financing still needs approval
Enterprise Singapore publishes the SME Working Capital Loan criteria and participating financial institutions. Scheme criteria and a bank's credit assessment are separate. Check the current EnterpriseSG scheme page and ask the bank whether it is relevant.
Common questions
Does a business loan rejection automatically lower my credit score?
Do not assume that a decline itself or every credit check has the same effect. MoneySense distinguishes self-enquiries from new loan-application activity. CBS distinguishes application enquiries from review or guarantor enquiries. These are consumer credit-report principles; ask the bank how a business application affects the company and any director or guarantor.
How long should I wait before applying again?
Ask the bank about its own reapplication rules and what needs to change. There is no universal waiting period stated here. A future application should address the reason for the decline and use current, accurate information.
Can Lead Advisors appeal or resubmit for me?
No. Lead Advisor Pte. Ltd. only introduces clients to banks. It does not recommend products, negotiate terms, prepare applications or submit them on your behalf. You handle any application or appeal directly with the bank.
